It can be hard to determine if a haunting or possession is truly the result of a demonic entity. As we've already covered, not all possessions are demonic. They may be the result of a spirit walk-in. The same applies for hauntings. It's difficult to know if you are dealing with an evil human spirit or a demon.

To make it even harder to work out, demons will often lie about who or what they are to avoid detection, and some paranormal investigators claim that human spirits will sometimes pretend to be demons to make themselves appear more powerful and more terrifying.
