The welcome or orientation is an important part of the event to help guests feel at ease, to let them know what they can expect over the evening, and to run through important safety information in order to keep them safe. It's a time to introduce the team and run through the history of the property.

Although it's a good idea to tell guests about the history of the location, the organizers of many ghost events avoid telling guests too much about its haunted past, the spirits that have been encountered, and what guests at previous events have picked up. This means that if a guest does unearth some information like a name or date during a vigil, it's less likely that they've been influenced by what they've heard.
