Confirmation Bias

Confirmation bias is a psychological term that can significantly influence people experiencing hauntings and other psychic phenomena. It refers to the tendency of individuals to favour information that confirms their existing beliefs or expectations, regardless of the truthfulness of that information.

When someone believes they are experiencing a haunting, they are more likely to interpret ordinary occurrences as extraordinary. For example, a sudden drop in temperature, creaking floorboards, rustling leaves, or distant voices might be seen as evidence of ghostly activity because these experiences align with their expectations. Similarly, a blurry figure in a photograph or an unusual sound can be perceived as paranormal due to the prior belief in ghosts.

On the other hand, confirmation bias also means that these individuals might disregard or give less importance to evidence or explanations that suggest these occurrences are not supernatural. A breeze causing a temperature drop, normal building noises, or a camera fault...
