Conducting a spontaneous case investigation under controlled conditions is essential for obtaining credible results. This process involves more than just ensuring no one else is present at the site; it also requires minimising environmental interference as much as possible. Electrical devices such as WiFi routers, central heating, air conditioning, and any other mechanical or moving parts should be turned off. Where possible, cutting power at the consumer unit can help eliminate potential sources of interference that could compromise the integrity of your findings.

Part of establishing these controls includes collecting solid baseline readings of the property before the investigation begins. Unfortunately, taking baseline measurements isn't as simple as doing a quick walk-through with an EMF meter 20 minutes before your field research begins. To truly understand the baseline environmental conditions and the way they naturally fluctuate within the location, it requires careful planning and a significant investment of time.
