Health and safety

Ghost hunting may not be an extreme sport and might seem like a relatively tame past time, but there are risks that should be assessed.

Most paranormal researchers investigate old properties, which may contain hazards like low doorways, uneven floors, and plenty of things you could trip over, not to mention dark basements, attic spaces, and stairwells.

Other popular locations include derelict buildings, which can be extremely dangerous places. There are many hazards, such as structurally weak floors and roofs, asbestos, and shear drops.

Caves and underground locations such as cellars and wartime bunkers are also frequently investigated. Underground spaces come with their own dangers and should be visited with great care and appropriate preparation. In places, the roof can be extremely unstable, and it is easy to get lost in the maze of passages.

As most ghost hunts are conducted in the dark, all of these hazards are greatly increased.
